The elixirs work oddly in this game/are broken. Even though I had 8, it would only activate once (and wouldn't even subtract from my total). And then after that they don't work anymore. It's almost as if the game only would let me use one.

The best way to use the 0.8 is to boost immediately after pressing the jump button. The 0.8 tries to keep you at a constant velocity, but if you wait till the top of a jump (when your y-velocity is 0), you'll waste a lot of boosts accelerating.

Hell or and Hell mode was actually a mode that was first included in Devil May Cry 4, I believe. It was basically the Son of Sparda difficulty, but you would die if you took any damage.
