I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. It's really disappointing to have an anti-climactic ending that was made just for the purpose of finishing it. That kind of disappointment for me is much greater than that of a project being abandoned when the creator is at the top of their game.

Arthur didn't go to the Last Cave to confront the Red Demon, the Red Demon came to the Village whereupon Arthur drove it back. There's no in-game evidence to suggest Arthur ever ventured into the Last Cave. Here's what Jack says in the assembly hall:
