I think the pillars being spikes could've been communicated a little better with a red tip to them, I've died to them so many times already just because they blend in with the already same colored regular pillars.

I would not recommend Cave Story + (the steam version) for modding, especially if you're first starting out. Use the original freeware version, its much much much more accessible modding-wise (most all the tools available are built to mod freeware anyways) and it will make your life much easier...
