Yoo! As of the 17th, I have been on these forums for 10 years now. Granted, I don't post here specifically very much, but it is technically my 10 year anniversary of being in the overall community in general! Wow! Where did those years go? Lol.

I'll just reflect a little bit. It's my 10 year anniversary in the community, I can indulge. It's a long read. If you don't wanna read it, I'm not forcing you. I'm just going over my history with this Cave Story stuff. It's a long read, but it's worth it if you wanna know about my Cave Story journey.

If you want to get to the part where I thank specific people for being around and all that stuff, skip to the part that starts with this guy: :hoppy:

Anyway...time for a history lesson.

I first played Cave Story on the Wii in like, maybe around 2012-2013, I don't remember exactly. But I was actually exposed to it first through the DsiWare store, as I thought it looked really cool and always wanted to give it a shot. I did on the Wii, though, and my sister and I worked together to finish it. I remember it fondly because this is also the first time I played Kirby 64, and I believe the original Mega Man, too. Completely unrelated, though.

Fast forward a few years and I got my first computer, and was exposed to Cave Story mods through WTF Story. I thought it was cool and the music was awesome, but I was just a wee little lad and couldn't download things on the family computer. But I knew about it. I'd say this was around 2014-ish. But in 2016, I finally did get my own computer, and I downloaded Cave Story and Ikachan (I had Ikachan on my 3ds, too. I really liked it as a kid, I might have even liked it more than Cave Story but to be honest I don't remember.

In October of 2016, I made my own account on this forum, but ironically enough, I believe it was because I needed help with modding, since at that point, I was already wanting to make my own Cave Story adjacent...thing. It was called Cave Story Silver. It's probably lost media now (oh noooooo not my really cringy first mod being lost media nooooooo) but I remember the plot took place some years after the original Cave Story and you played as a Mimiga wearing Quote's clothes, and you re-discover the red crystal after it disappeared many years after the original CS. It was kind of edgy and cringy and I remember posting it to here to show it off and someone got upset and refused to play it because it had a Megalovania ORG. Alright bro lmao. Man, the times sure were different back then, weren't they?

Anyway, I ended up joining the CSMC soon after that in like, 2017, I think. It took awhile after starting my first mod, because, as per the nature of ADHD, I got distracted and lost interest in Cave Story Silver. I also kinda had no idea where it was going, plot wise, so it's gone forever now. I joined the CSMC to get help with it though, and the fine folks there helped me with map design-related stuff. It was really cool, and I got really into CS modding.

I was cooking up this animated series at the time I called Tremor Tragedy, which was an 8 episode thing featuring these kind of cringy Kirby OCs and a Zorua from Pokemon on a Final Fantasy-adjacent quest to find these 5 Crystals and save the world. It was ambitious and I even got my friends from school to voice act in it lol. They even liked the scripts I cooked up for it, I will say I am proud of how I wrote it. So, the reason this is important to Cave Story, is because I had the bright idea of making a small side project in the TT universe called "Soos Quest" which would have been about the main character, Soos, being transported to a different universe, trying to escape and go home. It had some unique elements not present in the main series and I had a lot of fun with it, it was my first real Cave Story mod I actually poured my soul into. It was great. However, this one ended up getting cancelled because I wanted to focus all my efforts into the main thing and I think it just kinda went nowhere, too. It was a shame, really. It's also lost media because I think the dev build I had for it is on my old computer, which is gone. Vanished. Never to be seen again.

Alright so, all that above happened in Middle School to High School. Tremor Tragedy survived until 2019, when I tried to adapt it and actually work on it in college. I got new cast members and expanded the story and everything. However, those people ended up being really toxic to me, and it kind of completely ruined Tremor Tragedy for me, so I had to let it go. It really sucked too. But to be honest, I think I also just grew up from the OC stuff. I was in my early years of college, I had more going on in my life and couldn't really focus on that kind of stuff. I had a lot of growing up to do, too. I much prefer writing original stories with original characters, anyway.

So, in 2019, I started working on the Cave Story mod that really got me invested into CS Modding: Blaster Street Incorporated.

This one was legendary. I had a whole original cast of peeps, people were liking the stuff I showed off, and I really, REALLY loved what I was cooking up with it. The story was about this rag tag organization of crime fighters called Blaster Street Inc. who did mercenary jobs and took down criminals. You played as Xavier, a blue thingamajig (I still don't know, man) who got sent on missions to solve problems and take down a bigger threat, known as Doug Bausman, who wanted to use evil magic to spread his corporation around the world. It was fucking peak dude. This one was developed for awhile, I had whole arcs and stuff prepped and I even went as far as writing a script for it outside of the game itself. However, this one also got canned, because it got too ambitious. I didn't really think I could make a Cave Story mod of it that'd properly encaspulate what I wanted; I didn't have as much exprience as I do now. I could maybe do it now, sure, but...eh.

I loved Xavier, though. He was my goat. So I took him, created a new world, a couple new guys, and, with the help of my buddy GoodSmarts (who will be coming up again later), started working on an RPG called "Project OverStory". This one was also pretty neat. It was about three potion sellers named Xavier, Scone, and Todd, who get wrapped up in some shady business by a cloaked figure and have to travel the world to find forbidden ingredients in order to create "The Mega Potion", a potion of which the world has never crafted before. It was fun and whimsical, and had it's fair share of moments of seriousness. I was wrapped up in this one for years, I wrote many scripts and even made a prototype in RPG Maker. It had a lot put into it. So, again, why does this relate to Cave Story?

Well, because of burnout, and the upcoming modfest 32 and Autumn (a great person I'll also mention again soon) making a netplay hack for Cave Story, I decided to create this wee, little, tiny, kinda obscure little thing called DripQuest; which was originally meant as a spinoff to OverStory and took place in the same world. I think you guys know what DripQuest is. I got GoodSmarts on board and we reused some OverStory music and DripQuest released on September 14th, 2022, and people really liked it! It almost won that modfest. So, I sat down with GoodSmarts and we started work on...a sequel. Called DripQuest 2: Roundabout Road-Drip. It was a world-wide adventure that took place after the modfest mod, and it was very grandiose and also not very interesting, so we scrapped it and started working on...a DIFFERENT sequel, called DripQuest: Of Myths and Monsters, which was heavily inspired by Castlevania and had a plot revolving around Gabe (the Drip Store owner and also a very close irl friend of mine) getting kidnapped and taken to a big scary tower, where you, the player, and your friends had to scale the evil spire and save Gabe, because, without him, Village Town's economy was in shambles. This one, too, got cancelled, kinda.

But, ultimately, what we ended up doing was, we decided to just expand the original. We took some levels we had made for Of Myths and Monsters, some story elements from Roundabout Road-Drip, and combined them into what we eventually called "DripQuest DX". DripQuest DX originally was just meant to expand the original, with new levels and some story, but it eventually evolved into an entire re-imagining with new characters, an entirely different plot, so much more music, and a full on character creation screen. I fell in love with it, and I became more attached to it then OverStory, and I eventually just took some characters and storybeats from that too and OverStory just kind of became DripQuest DX instead. There was also this other thing called Crapbug, but I don't gotta get into that right now.

DripQuest DX Part One, the culmination of GoodSmarts and I's 4-5 years of work, with the help of so many great and wonderful people, finally released on May 22nd, 2026. It's the biggest Cave Story mod I've ever made and the first real larger-scale project I've ever finished. And you can play it, right here: https://doukutsuclub.knack.com/database#index/mod-details/6a10f07e786ee24d6269a523/ (I don't know if this embed or not, I forgot how links worked here lol. Just copy and paste it. It's on Doukutsu Club.)

So...yeah. That's where we're at now. DripQuest is actually being made into it's own thing, using Godot. I don't have a lot to reveal right now but we're making it work. Oh, I also made the original EncoreQuest, too, which is a parody featuring the Cave Story Encore team and I on an adventure to save Troylol, the head dev of CS Encore, from the Incredible Evil. It's been expanded into it's own series of mods and they're all pretty great, in my opinion. Check them out when you can!!

That's my story...my Cave Story story. My Cave Story.

:hoppy: - I wanna take this time to thank some people in the community I've met over the years who I think are awesome and amazing and greatly impacted who I am.

Troylol, Zeroflafi, Samantha&K, AsperDev, and Tert/Tessie: You guys are some of my closest online friends ever. I have spent so many fond memories with you and you are some of the funniest human beings on the planet. DripQuest is amazing because of you. Thank you guys. Cave Story Encore looks awesome and I am honored to see it through with you guys.

Brayconn, EnlightenedOne, elipsis, Gambit, 2dbro, Autumn, CheerioQuest, Blu, Roverkibb, Geo, literallywho, SeventhNeedle, PrKo, and Colonp: You guys are so awesome and have given me so much Cave Story help over the years, while providing me with a good community to be a part of in my growing years. While the CSMC may not be the place for me anymore, I cherish the memories I made there with you guys, and I can't wait to spend more time with you all someday. Keep up the Cave Story grind. I'll be back on April Fools for that, y'know, silly business. With that one Biz guy. Who still owes me money.

Tom "GoodSmarts": He doesn't have a forum account but I'm listing him because, without his insight and musical prowess, I would have never gotten anything done. Thank you Tom. Check out some of his stuff, when you can!

Daisuke Pixel Amaya: Thanks for making Cave Story bro

Nicalis: You ain't perfect but I wouldn't have played Cave Story without you. So yeah. You're alright in my books. For now. You could also release Super 1001 Spikes EX, too, and that'd be nice, but...

My mom: thanks for having me 25 years ago.

God: thanks for creating the world so I can make DripQuest

Fonk and the Duck: for showing us all Slenderman Forest 2: Return to Slender

Yinty: You already know.

Alright that's it. Here's to another 10 years! Maybe the real DripQuest will be out by then!! Hopefully!

Thank you guys for having and keeping me. Love ya'll. Be safe and God bless you.
